At the InnoTrans 2022 passenger transport exhibition in Berlin, Solaris presented to the general public for the first time its new product – an articulated, 18-meter Urbino 18 Hydrogen bus running on hydrogen fuel cells. The vehicle does not have the usual engine compartment, as it uses a modular drive system. Lightweight composite cylinders holding 51.2 kg of hydrogen are installed on the roof.
Also used are 60-kilowatt batteries of own design, which perform auxiliary functions – during acceleration or braking (recuperation). The power reserve, depending on weather conditions, can reach 350 km. It takes about 20 minutes to fully refuel.
Passenger capacity – up to 140 people. The electric bus is certified for type I and II, and therefore can be operated on intercity routes. You can choose one of four options for the door scheme: 2-2-2-0, 1-2-2-0, 1-2-2-2 or 2-2-2-2. The model is equipped with an air conditioner with a heat filter that uses heat from the outside.
Solaris launched its first 12-meter hydrogen bus model in 2019. Since then, 100 such vehicles have been delivered to Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Poland. As for the new, 18-meter model, it will begin to arrive to customers in the second quarter of 2023.
