The purpose of this communication is to inform superintendents and district administrators about the opening of the application for the Texas Through-year Assessment Pilot (TTAP) for the 2023–2024 school year.

TTAP Year 2 Overview

House Bill 3906, 86th Texas Legislature, 2019, required the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ (TEA) to develop and pilot an innovative, through-year assessment model as a possible replacement for the summative State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®). A through-year assessment model refers to a progress monitoring system that provides students multiple opportunities throughout the school year to demonstrate their mastery of the curriculum standards and to contribute to their summative performance level reported at the end of the year. In response to this legislation, TEA has developed TTAP in collaboration with Texas educators, administrators, students, and families.

During the 2023–2024 school year, TTAP will be available to administer for the following grades and subjects: grade 5 science, grades 6 and 7 math, and grade 8 social studies. TTAP will feature three, short testing opportunities, tentatively scheduled for the following dates:

  • Opportunity 1 (Fall)—November 6–10, 2023
  • Opportunity 2 (Winter)—January 29–February 2, 2024
  • Opportunity 3 (Spring)—March 25–29, 2024

To support district and campus administrators and teachers participating in TTAP, TEA will host required trainings throughout the 2023–2024 school year. A beginning-of-year training will be held in August, and subsequent trainings will be held shortly before or after each testing opportunity to ensure operational fidelity and to train educators to analyze and act on TTAP’s progress monitoring data.

Apply to Participate in TTAP

All Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools are eligible to participate in TTAP. TEA will host two webinars to provide information to interested district personnel. To participate in one of these webinars, register using the links below.

Space in TTAP is limited due to operational constraints. Priority will be given to districts that participated in TTAP during the 2022–2023 school year and to districts that are able to administer all four TTAP tests during the 2023–2024 school year.
