The Texas Student Data System (TSDS) Child Find Collection for the 2023–2024 school year opened on September 11, 2023, for local educational agencies (LEAs) to promote data for children initially evaluated for special education with an eligibility determination date from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.

The ˿Ƶ (TEA) encourages LEAs to start promoting data as soon as possible to ensure that all information systems are working properly and all Child Find policy questions can be addressed. The Child Find Collection includes State Performance Plan Indicator 11 (SPPI 11A – Timely Initial Evaluation; SPPI 11B – Eligibility Determination) and SPPI 12 (Early Childhood Transition), which are used for assessing an LEA’s procedural compliance with state and federal special education evaluation requirements.

  • TSDS ready for users to promote Child Find data: September 11, 2023
  • TSDS ready for users to complete Child Find data: May 20, 2024

LEA Special Education Program Responsibilities

LEA special education program staff should coordinate with their LEA's TSDS data steward to ensure the following requirements are met:

  • Submitting current, complete, and accurate Child Find data to the TSDS
  • Validating data per business rules and validations
  • Correcting all errors during the data validation process in a timely manner
  • Delivering “fatal-free” corrected Child Find data on or before the deadline set by TEA

Data Changes and Requirements

  • See theTSDS Child Find: Updates 2023-2024for recent changes to the Child Find Collection.
  • LEAs should submit data for children with afrom July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024 (i.e., the data collection period).
  • LEAs must submit thefor children referred from Early Childhood intervention (ECI) as potentially eligible for early childhood special education (ECSE).
