OverviewÌý
The Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes Texas school district and open-enrollment charter school campuses that show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families. The Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ (TEA) accepted applications for the 2023-2024 school year from April 3, 2023, through June 2, 2023, for campuses to apply for the designation and demonstrate they have met the established criteria:ÌýÌý
- Designating a campus-based military liaison;Ìý Ìý
- Creating and maintaining an easily accessible web page that includes information for military-connected students and their families;ÌýÌý
- Implementing a campus transition program; andÌý Ìý
- Offering at least one of the following initiatives:
- A resolution showing support for military-connected students and families;
- Participation in Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month; or
- Partnership with a school liaison officer to encourage and provide opportunities for active-duty military members.Ìý Ìý
Any Texas public school can become a Purple Star Campus, regardless of the size of its military-connected student population. Districts and charter schools are encouraged to support campuses and help them meet the criteria for Purple Star Campus Designation status. Applications are accepted on an annual basis, and the designation lasts for two years. After the two-year period, campuses that were previously awarded the designation must re-certify to retain the campus designation.ÌýÌý
