OverviewÌý
Preventing school violence requires addressing the factors that put people at risk for or that protect them from violence. In an effort to support local safety efforts, on November 3, 2022, the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ (TEA) released theÌýProposed amendment to 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 61, School Districts, Subchapter CC, Commissioner’s Rules Concerning School Facilities, §61.1031, School Safety RequirementsÌýto provide a minimum standard for educational facilities for the state of Texas.Ìý
School Safety Standards Implementation Costs SurveyÌý
With the release of the proposed School Safety Standards, TEA has designed aÌýÌýto ensure TEA has a complete understanding of the financial impact of the implementation of the rule. All school systems that need to upgrade facilities to meet the School Safety Standards are highly encouraged to complete the survey.ÌýÌý
School systems should include work already done to implement the rule dating back to June 1, 2022. School systems should complete all survey fields with as much as accuracy as possible and should include and indicate in each section actual money spent or contract bid amounts received where applicable.Ìý
School systems should complete the survey no later than February 10, 2023.
Schools systems can download aÌýPDF preview of the surveyÌýprior to completing the Qualtrics survey.
Available Technical Assistance
To support districts in understanding the requirements and estimating the cost of each individual component for each campus, and ultimately the district, TEA has created the following optional tools.ÌýÌý
- Campus-level School Safety Cost Estimate ToolÌý
- District-level School Safety Cost Estimate ToolÌýÌý
- This tool is aligned with this survey for streamlined and aligned data input to theÌý.Ìý
To help LEAs better understand how both of these tools can be used, TEA is hosting a School Safety Standards Cost Estimation Webinar on Friday, December 16 at 12:00 noon.Ìý.Ìý
