Character Education
School districts and open-enrollment charter schools must adopt character education programs for students and identify criteria for Character Plus Programs.
Programs offered under Ìýmust meet the following criteria:
- Stress positive character traits and personal skills as outlined in the law
- Use integrated teaching strategiesÌý
- Be age appropriate
In selecting a character education program districts must also consult with parents of students, educators, and members of the community, including community leaders.
TEA must maintain a list of character education programs that meet the above criteria.
