Initially established by the 72nd Texas Legislature in Senate Bill 1340, the Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee (TEEAC) serves educators and informal science providers throughout the state. ÌýTo encourage and support the breadth of environmental education, TEEAC designated the following 10 core themes:

  • Air Quality
  • Communities & Ecosystems, including Human Population
  • Wildlife & Domestic Animals
  • Plants, Food, & FiberÌý
  • Aesthetics & the Built EnvironmentÌý

  • Society, Economics, Politics & Culture

TEEAC maintains a network of providers of environmental education professional development, including universities, local and state agencies, museums, and nature centers. These providers meet yearly with Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ staff for cross-disciplinary professional development related to environmental education. The TEEAC Providers network helps ensure that teacher professional development is educationally sound and consistent with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).Ìý

Educators may earn an environmental education Certificate of Recognition by receiving professional development from TEEAC providers.

TEEAC Providers offer professional development to educators and/or environmental experiences to students that incorporate the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The network of TEEAC Providers helps ensure that teacher professional development is educationally rigorous and consistent with the TEKS. The TEEAC Providers list is updated yearly. To become a TEEAC Provider, an institution must provide professional development to educators and/or provide educational opportunities for Texas students. Providers complete a Program Description Form for each workshop or other program offered to educators. Once complete, return the Program Description Form via email to liz.baker@tea.texas.gov. This will get your institution or program on the TEEAC Providers List. If you are not already a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider, please send questions to the .

The TEEAC Annual Providers' meeting, held in early January, gathers program representatives from the TEEAC Providers network together with Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ staff for cross-disciplinary professional development related to environmental education and other state curriculum issues and initiatives.
